MOMENT is the past, present and future of music as seen through the unique lens of New York City. A collective archive and living museum of music, dedicated to the history of cultural diversity in NYC.

We strive to cultivate and preserve the musical communities and cultures of New York, specifically looking at how they creatively intersect through time, technology, and technique — bringing music history to schools, advocating for musicians rights and local music business, and creating work for local musicians. To that end MOMENT is creating the virtual, and physical, Museum of Music & Entertainment in New York City — a community center for all of New York’s musical communities.

Our education program brings this rich history of music to schools throughout the City in the form of presentations, performances and events, to preserve this history and inspire future generations. Beyond a unified look at New York’s diverse music history, MOMENT speaks to the significance of music to us as humans and how it has changed through time, industry, and technological advances.  From the Lenape Indians to Tin Pan Ally, bebop and Broadway; from salsa and punk rock to hip hop and opera; from the Brill Building, the Apollo and Carnegie Hall to folk music, minimalism, doo-wop, boogaloo and disco New York City has a soundtrack like no other city. You can learn more about our educational programming here.

MOMENT is a chartered museum through the State of New York and is a nonprofit 501c3 tax-exempt organization. To find out more about what we do and learn how you can be involved please contact us. MOMENT is a museum of, for and by the people of NYC and all input is welcome. With musicians, music industry veterans, arts organizations, businesses and community leaders we are building a coalition that is the foundation of MOMENT, making it a truly New York institution. Our programs have received funding, in part, from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, the Citizens Committee for New York City and The Musicians Performance Trust Fund, through the American Federation of Musicians and the musicians union Local 802. We hope that you will join us.
